Eight Hours Plus at Starbucks

88514-1127

I love Starbucks; Ann loves Starbucks. That's why we always meet there. Still, never before have we spent as much time there in one day as we did last Saturday. We met at noon, and stayed in the same chairs till close to nine (!) PM.

Ann is my best friend here. We have spent countless amount of hours over coffee and tea cups at Starbucks, solving problems and harshing on people.

So it's sad to leave her. I sure will miss her a ton.

Reading Sky Mall

When we flew back from Sweden last week, I stole the highly laughable magazine Sky Mall, a magazine full with things you don't need. It is, however, pretty fun to look through; there is just no end to what crazy things they try to sell. Did you ever feel a need for any of these?

88514-1097

Maybe the silliest of them all. Who buys this?

88514-1089

Maybe a clever idea, but really ...  Who would keep this alarm clock after having to dig it out from underneth the bed at six thirty every morning for a week?

88514-1096

Cats are not like dogs who catch the ball and bring it back neatly. Schmaltz would bite the head of this mouse in second and all the electronics in it would be dead.

88514-1095

Since when does radar kill germs? Does it?

88514-1094

Doesn't this violate people's right for privacy?

88514-1093

Who in the world wants the litter box in the living room?!?!

88514-1092

Simply stupid.

88514-1091

Plastic rocks? Come on!

88514-1090

Tomatoes upside down ... Why? I ask myself why.

88514-1098

Maybe it feels good, but it looks silly. Probably one of those things you get, but then never use.

88514-1099

Please... Who needs one of these at home?

Advice for the Photographer

Helsingør

On Wednesday, mom and I went to Helsingör (Helsingør in Danish), a small picturesque Danish town, just across the sound from us.

88514-1066

We ate picnic-lunch outside of Kronborg Castle, overlooking Oresund; on the other side of the water you see Sweden and Helsingborg.

We also visited Kronborg Castle, the setting of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy Hamlet.

Cousins

88514-1019

First out is Thyra, who visited us on Sunday together with her parents, uncle Björn and aunt Jenny. This is how pretty my three week old niece is nowadays. She is apparantly a very good eater and has put on a whole kilo since the first time I saw her!

88514-1018

Uncle Björn's lap is a soft and comfy place for a nap.

AND . . .

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !  We wish you all luck; we are so happy for you and know you will be great parents.

Embarrassing

88514-964

I visited Björn at work today and found his colleague's desk covered in love notes from an obviously over-emotional girlfriend.

At least I am not the most embarrassing family member stopping by the office :-)

Fredriksdal

88514-947

No matter how annoying the rain was, it made the roses ten times more beautiful.

88514-946

88514-929

So true, so true.

88514-940

Linné dedicated his life to categorizing plants. The classifications he did are still used. These are copes of Linné's wall papers; his own pictures. Pretty nice, huh.

B u i l d i n g s

At Fredriksdal, you can see what houses and homes looked like centuries ago. Even though the buildings are partly restored, they are all real homes from the time they represent.

88514-943

This manor from 1787 was donated to the town of Helsingborg in 1916 and the reason Fredriksdal became a park. The house is beautiful; I would move in any day.

88514-937

This house is a little older and the people who lived here were hard working farmers. Due to a fire, the outside of the house is partly blackened.

88514-936

Beds... It's probably a good thing I didn't live back when you slept like this. I get clausterfobic just looking at them.

88514-934

88514-925

House number three is very old; parts of it dates back from the 17th century. The owners were wealthy farmers.

88514-917

Very picturesque.

88514-922

A rich farm had its own loom. This one is from . . .

An indoor swing for the youngest.

88514-933

This is probably what a typical block of a town would have looked like a century, or a couple of centuries back. However, since Sweden hasn't been in war for hundreds of years, many old parts of towns are well kept. These kinds of houses are still common today, although we seldom build like this anymore.

Old-style houses meets modern construction.
